The Rochester Sweeps Festival

Good Evening

As I am sure a lot of you are aware The Rochester Sweeps Festival is on tomorrow in Rochester town centre from 10am – 6:30pm.

“For 3 days, historic Rochester is transformed into a riot of colour and sound with the best folk musicians and bands, with hundreds of Morris dancers from across the country clattering their clogs and clashing their sticks up and down the high street. The festival also hosts a dynamic programme of international dance groups and workshops.” – Medway council

A bit of advice if your attending

  • Don’t drive, parking is going to be next to impossible in the town centre unless you plan to arrive very early. If you can come via bus, train or walk I would go with that option.
  • The council website suggests that there will be parking available on Jackson’s field for £3 per car.
  • Set an agreed meeting point with your family and friends. It may sound simple but if you get separated from your group and for some reason you haven’t got a mobile or it doesn’t work a pre-arranged emergency meeting point can be a life saver. (Use what 3 words to help)
  • Don’t bring expensive items that you’re not prepared to lose. Name label items with your name and telephone number
  •  Use a purse chain. If you don’t have one, I will make sure we bring some so if you run in to me then ask.
  • Bring some cash, some stalls won’t take card and the cash points will have long ques and empty quickly.
  • Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  • Put wrist bands on your small children with your phone number on in case the worst should happen, and you become separated. You can get air tags with wrist bands for small children to help you keep track as well.
  • Don’t give money to beggars! The festival means that local beggars will be chancing their arm as there will be innocent tourists to prey on. We will move them on as quickly as possible but if you see one, especially near a cash point, then let us know.
