Vehicle Crime

Dear Residents,

The neighbourhood policing team have noticed a rise in vehicle crime over the last few weeks and are urging residents to follow these crime prevention tips.

There are some simple but effective things you can do to help protect your vehicle:

  • Ensure you are locking your vehicle and as the weather gets warmer, ensure you are closing windows.
  • Taking electrical items with you and not leaving any clues - DO NOT leave sat nav mounts, suction cup marks on windows or cables on view

  • Secure your number plates with tamper-resistant screws

  • Tool thefts from vans - ensure you mark any tools, take photographs of items of value, make a note of the serial numbers and consider registering them online at a property register site

  • Park your car in a garage or driveway if possible, or on a busy, well-lit road.  Choose a secure carpark where possible.
  • Never leave anything on display in your car. The cost to repair damage to the vehicle will usually exceed the value of the theft
  • To prevent theft of catalytic converts - Catalytic converter theft | Northamptonshire Police (northants.police.uk)
  • Park close to property if possible and invest in any CCTV
  • Ensure your car keys are kept in a safe place out of view
  • Fitting good in-car security locks
  • Further security tips and crime prevention advice can be found on the Northamptonshire Police website and on the Neighbourhood Watch website.

If you have any footage of anyone attempting to gain access to your vehicle or know that your vehicle has been broken into, please contact 101 or 999 if the suspect is still present.
