As part of an operation to deal with anti-social behaviour, officers carried out patrols and engagement work on Saturday, 20 April within Perth city centre.
This included foot patrols and offering support, advice to licensed premises to combat this kind of behaviour.

Sergeant Scott Hebbourn said: “Keeping the public safe is a priority, we want people to enjoy a night out but also have an awareness that anti-social behaviour causes misery in our communities.
We dealt with a number of incidents whereby groups were safely dispersed whilst a number of drivers were spoken to and the appropriate advice given.  We work collaboratively with our partners to ensure Perth city centre is a safe and welcoming space for all.  We will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour and officers will take robust action when required to do so”.

Recent Incidents/Updates

A 31-year-old man has been jailed for 18 months for shoplifting offences in Perth. Martin Blyth was sentenced Perth Sheriff Court on Friday, 12 April, 2024 after he committed a series of shop lifting offences in retail stores in the city over a period of six months in 2023. Inspector Stephen Gray of Perth Police Station said: “During his crime spree Blyth committed multiple shop lifting offences daily. His offending caused significant financial loss for these stores. “This will not be tolerated and anyone who has any concerns about thefts from supermarkets or shops in Tayside, they should contact Police Scotland on 101.”

PKC Visitor Rangers

PKC Visitor Rangers team are responsible for patrolling tourist hotspot areas and engaging with everyone who uses our beautiful countryside. They deliver messages on responsible access rights, highlight the risks of damage to the environment and promote water safety. They even make sure people have means of properly disposing of their human waste (and yes, that means handing out some trowels). Scottish Outdoor Access Code state that users have to respect the interests of other people, care for the environment and take responsibility for their own actions, and our rangers are there to make sure everyone does so. Remember, when visiting the outdoors we should only leave footprints and take only memories. 

Some people do not behave in a responsible manner and visitor rangers have to step in to make sure the environment is safe and welcoming for everyone else. This involves litter picking, disposing of abandoned camps and removing scorched fire rings or reporting industrial scale fly tipping. We’re now interviewing candidates to join the visitor ranger team and will soon be up to full strength. Rangers patrol the whole of Perth and Kinross and work very closely with partners from Forestry and Land Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland as well as other departments within Perth & Kinross Council – especially Parking Community Wardens and Waste Services. We have 5 usual patrol routes from Rannoch up north to Glen Devon and Loch Leven in the south, but will respond to intelligence from anywhere else in the county. If anyone has seen any problems with inconsiderate behaviour from visitor to the countryside we would very much like to hear about them, the easiest way to get in touch is to email visitormanagementgroup@pkc.gov.uk with a short description of the problem (including location, preferably What 3 Words, Google map pin or coordinates) and contact details in case we need to follow up.
