On Saturday 27th May 2024, the Newport Safer Neighbourhood Team conducted a roads policing operation to tackle anti-social driving and road traffic offences in the Newport area, in particular focusing on the A518 and A41.

This operation involved both marked and unmarked vehicles, with support from officers from other teams.

Whilst the manner of driving observed was generally as we would expect, there were unfortunately occasions where it was not.

Officers had cause to stop a number of vehicles. Some of the drivers were given words of advice at the road side, some were issued with advisory letters and one was issued with a Warning Notice under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002.

We were also able to make observations which helped build the intelligence picture around traffic issues in the area.

These operations will continue so we can keep our roads safe and reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.
