We are writing to you today, as a valued Neighbourhood Watch Volunteer, Member or Supporter, to keep you updated on an important issue which affects Neighbourhood Watch within the Luton area.  

Following publication of several articles relating to the Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner on the Luton Neighbourhood Watch website we have written to the Chair of Luton Neighbourhood Watch several times. 

We have stated that the articles need to be removed as they breach Neighbourhood Watch’s non-political stance and are highly inappropriate to be published on a Neighbourhood Watch platform for several reasons which have been conveyed to the Chair. As of today we have had no response from the Chair, despite our requests to do so.

If the articles are not removed immediately, we will have no choice but to remove Luton Neighbourhood Watch from the Neighbourhood Watch organisation. This will mean that Luton Neighbourhood Watch will be unable to use the Neighbourhood Watch name, logo, systems, support and insurance or act for, or on behalf of, Neighbourhood Watch in any capacity including with partners such as the local police.

While we do not want to take this action, particularly because of the fantastic work that Neighbourhood Watch members and volunteers undertake in Luton, we have no choice unless the articles are removed as they are causing reputational damage to Neighbourhood Watch locally and more widely.  

We would support the right of any individual to state their view and publish this but not in the name of Neighbourhood Watch or on a Neighbourhood Watch platform.
