Suspicious circumstances

There have been several incidents of persons knocking on doors and pressuring persons to buy items in areas the Forest of Dean including Cinderford, Littledean, Coleford and Lydney.

Please be advised most people who call at your house will be genuine. But sometimes, people turn up unannounced, with the intention of tricking their way into your home or pressuring persons to give money or personal details. If you are in any doubt, keep them out. You can use these simple steps to protect yourself.

Lock- Keep all doors locked even when home.

Stop- Stop and think if you are expecting someone before answering your door. Look through your spy hole and check who the person is if you can.

Chain- If you open the door chain it first.

Check- Check a person's identity on a card or letter. You can close the door if you wish. Only open completely if you feel safe and are positive the person is who they say they are.
