Protect Your Gold: Safeguarding Jewellery from Burglaries in Sevenoaks

I would like to make you aware of a cluster of burglaries in the Sevenoaks area, particularly in Seal and the Weald, where suspects have forced entry to homes through rear patio doors to target and steal gold jewellery.

To help protect your valuables and deter potential further jewellery related burglaries, please consider the following crime prevention strategies:

Photograph Your Jewellery: Create a visual inventory by photographing each piece of your valuable gold jewellery. Capture clear, detailed images from different angles. This can aid in identification and recovery if they are stolen.

Keep Purchase Receipts: Store receipts with your photos. These documents are essential for insurance claims and crime reports, proving ownership and helping to establish the value of the stolen items.

Use a Safe: Invest in a high-quality safe for storing valuable jewellery at home. Ensure it's securely anchored within your house to prevent it from being removed.

Decoy Safes: Consider using a decoy safe or a diversion safe (like a book or a can with a hidden compartment) to store less valuable items.

CCTV/alarms: Consider installing a robust CCTV/alarm system that includes door and window sensors, motion detectors and CCTV cameras. Ensure cameras cover all entry points, especially secluded rear doors and windows.

Be Discreet: Avoid displaying your jewellery in areas visible from windows or doors.

Locks: Ensure that all doors and windows have high-quality locks.

Security Film for Glass: Apply security film to patio doors and windows to make the glass harder to break. This can be a deterrent as it increases the effort and noise needed to enter.

Install Motion-Activated Lights: Place motion-sensor lights around the perimeter of your home, especially near entry points and in dark areas. Bright lights can deter burglars by increasing the chance that they will be seen.

Neighbourhood Watch: Participate in or start a neighbourhood watch program or social media group with your neighbours. Informing neighbours can help keep an extra set of eyes on suspicious activities around your community.

Property Marking: Use an ultraviolet (UV) pen or an engraving tool to mark your jewellery with a unique identifier (like your postcode and house number). This won’t prevent theft, but it will make it easier to identify and recover your items if they are stolen.

Please always be vigilant and make a note of any suspicious behaviour, including descriptions, vehicle registrations, times and dates. This may prove key if there is later a crime in your area. If you think the behaviour is linked to crime please do not hesitate to call police.
