Locally Identified Priorities: Giving feedback - you said, we did - Corby December 2023 - March 2024

Dear Resident

In December 2023, we set three local priorities – ASB Motorcycle Nuisance, Drugs Harm and Drugs Misuse and Burglary.

These were based on what local people told us concerned them most in their neighbourhood, as well as local crime statistics and information from our partners (such as the local council).

These priorities have been the focus of much of our work over the last four months and below is an update about some of the work we have been doing to tackle them.

We’ve carried out over 375 hours of uniformed patrols on the Kingswood estate. There are now weekly surgeries at the KINGSWOOD Neighbourhood centre to support residences.

There have been a significant reduction in motorcycle nuisance due to the enforcement and patrols of Op Pacify. These patrols and enforcement will be stepped up over the summer months to reduce this type of ASB.

Several speeding tickets issued on the Oakley Vale and plans are in place to start a Community Speed watch.

Speed static camera enforcements and patrols have been conducted in Corby and the outlying villages due to speeding concerns raised by local residents.

Regular and daily visits to educational establishments talks regarding Knife Crime and Gangs/County Lines conducted by our designated schools officer.

Community working alongside Premier League Kicks will continue.

Parking patrols outside local schools have continued due to concerns raised by schools and local residents.

We continue to prioritise knife crime and have recovered and destroyed a significant number of weapons over this period

We’ve carried out a number of drug warrants and several individuals have been charged for cannabis production and over 350 plants recovered and destroyed.

A significant number of prolific shoplifters and known offenders have been arrested and remanded to prison which has resulted in a 40% reduction in theft offences across the town, this includes burglary, robbery, vehicle crime, and retail thefts.

We have created a retail crime initiative working with Operation Elegance to support retailers and staff with an absolute zero tolerance to this type of theft, there has been clear evidence that this crime activity has been fuelling the local drugs industry.

We have continued to work with partner agencies as a priority to identify and safeguard those at risk of being exploited by criminal gangs, who manipulate vulnerable people who target their addresses to progress their drug dealing activities. Reviews of this activity are assessed and risk rated every month, resulting in robust intervention. Corby have two dedicated officers that conduct visits to vulnerable people at risk of being cuckooed. Due to this work the early intervention and support has reduced the number of victims exposed to this activity.

Operation Reassure has now commenced which is a planned activity with additional resources and officers providing directed patrols in known ASB hotspots such as the Town centre.

Everyone who lives or works in Northamptonshire is invited to tell us about any local issues that concern them and the easiest way to do this is by completing our Local Priorities survey
