‘Stay calm, listen and ask’ – being a Superintendent in SOU


Our Specialist Operations Unit (SOU) consists of several specialist areas, which all play a huge role in our policing, but what is it like to be the head of command for the unit?  

The departments which are under the SOU includes Operations Planning, Dog Section, Specialist Operations Training, Firearms (including training), Roads Policing, Marine Section and Underwater Search, Collision Records Unit and the Central Ticket Office.  

Having been a part of the force for 20 years, SOU Superintendent Jenny Bristow spoke about what inspired her to join the force, and her experience before she became a part of Humberside Police: “Before joining the force as a police officer, I first volunteered as a Special Constable for just over three years. Firstly, with Lincolnshire Police and then moving onto Humberside Police. I didn’t have any family links to the police – all I knew is what I had seen on the TV and through my own experience, from when I took part in the Lifestyle Challenge initiative.
