Barbecue Safety

Dear Resident,

With the nicer weather approaching, please take care if you are having any type of barbeque. If using a coal barbecue, the coals stay hot for a very long time. Best practice is to leave them for at least 24 hours to fully burn and cool, or completely dowse with water before discarding them in the bin. The coals can appear to be cool on the outside but may still be hot enough on the inside to ignite any combustible materials in a bin, including the bin itself. If using a disposable barbecue, please be mindful of the surface that the barbecue is placed on as the heat radiates through the bottom of the barbecue causing severe damage to whatever is supporting the barbecue and again, ensure the coals within the barbecue are completely cool before disposing. If using a gas barbecue, please be careful where the gas is stored both whilst it is being used, and when not in use.

Fingers crossed for a nice, sunny weekend!

Stay safe.
