Killingbeck and Seacroft Local Priority Updates - Operation Balletmay

Killingbeck and Seacroft communities, we continue to target and address the local community and policing priorities set across the ward areas, to address reports of drugs supply, the anti-social and criminal use of pedal cycles, electric motorbikes, stolen vehicles, and anti-social behaviour.

You said:

  • Communities want to see targeted enforcement to address street drugs supply, with an enhanced focus on those utilising pedal cycles, motorcycles, and vehicles to supply drugs.

  • There needs to be continued patrols at Tesco, Seacroft to disrupt and disperse young people congregating at the retail park and to address issues with Theft at retail premises.

  • You wanted to see positive enforcement action taken to address the rise in Burglary offences.

  • We have:

  • Implemented a targeted operation to address drug supply and associated criminality in the ward, called Operation Balletmay as part of our ongoing commitment to address the community concerns raised.

  • Conducted targeted and proactive patrols as part of Operation Balletmay resulting in several arrests for drugs offences, inclusive of possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs, Burglary, and road-related offences.

  • Proactively gathered intelligence and obtained Section 23 Misuse of Drugs warrants, which have been executed across the ward.

  • Seized motorcycles and bicycles by tactically deploying a stinger, to disrupt the anti-social vehicle use and have seized a range of vehicles used in criminality.

  • Delivered and continue to hold community contact points and multi-agency meetings across retail parks, that have been affected by anti-social behaviour and theft.

  • Held crime prevention engagement events across the Seacroft and Killingbeck retail parks providing information, advice, and crime prevention materials.

  • Deployed officers to Burglary ‘hotspot’ locations and stopped and searched multiple individuals, resulting in arrests. A news release was previously published on the 6th of February 2024, to highlight targeted patrols across Leeds East and to provide crime prevention advice, which can be viewed at: Proactive Burglary Patrols Results In Arrest - Leeds East NPT | West Yorkshire Police. Between January and February 2024, there were 26 recorded offences of Burglary offences across the ward and following the targeted patrols, disruption visits implemented, the multiple stop and searches conducted to address these offences and disrupt offenders, there was a 69% reduction Burglary offences with 8 recorded offences between February and March 2024.

  • Since February and as part of Operation Balletmay, officers from Killingbeck and Seacroft Neighbourhood Policing Team have stopped and searched over 30 people across the ward, arresting nine individuals for a range of offences including possession with intent supply Class A and B drugs, prison recall, breach of license conditions and motoring offences inclusive of driving whilst over the prescribed limit, fail to stop and driving whilst disqualified. A male juvenile was also dealt with, and the relevant referrals submitted, after they were found to be in possession of a Class B drug namely Cannabis.

Between the 26th and 28th March 2024, officers deployed across Seacroft as part of Operation Balletmay where several individuals were stopped and searched during the deployments, resulting in one adult male being found in possession of a Class A drug and another adult male found in possession of a Class B drug, both individuals were issued with out of court disposals. A vehicle also failed to stop for officers and the driver made off from the vehicle, the vehicle was located and seized on suspicion of being used in crime and enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.

In addition, officers seized an electric Sur-on motorcycle, after the rider was seen riding the vehicle illegally across the ward. The driver was reported to the courts, for numerous road traffic offences. Officers also gave chase to an individual suspected to be involved in crime, the suspect discarded an electric pedal cycle during the chase, which was subsequently seized.

On Wednesday 3rd of April 2024, the Neighbourhood Policing Team executed a Misuse of Drugs warrant at an address on the Ramsheads, Seacroft. Officers located two large cannabis plants within the dwelling. An adult male was arrested from the address and a female adult was later interviewed by officers under caution, resulting in an adult community resolution being issued.

Proactive patrols were conducted on Friday 5th April 2024, when a vehicle failed to stop for officers in Seacroft. After a short pursuit the vehicle was stopped, the driver was arrested after checks revealed they were wanted for a Domestic Stalking offence, the vehicle was recovered, and the driver was also reported for multiple road related offences.

Later that evening officers stopped a vehicle in Seacroft, after there was a strong smell of Cannabis coming from the vehicle. The driver tested positive for Cannabis, following a roadside drugs wipe test. They were subsequently arrested, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Leeds East Neighbourhood Policing Teams continue to tackle and address the local priorities across the ward, and we will continue to pursue those involved in serious and organised criminality and anti-social activities, that blight the communities we serve.

If you do have any information or concerns about organised criminal activity, please contact West Yorkshire Police. Alternatively, information can be provided 100% anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
