March Newsletter- South Wigston

Dear Resident,

Please read on to find out what your local policing team have been doing in March 2024:

We have listened to you, and below are the concerns that you reported to us this month within your local area. The priorities as we understand them are:

Priority 1: Road safety issues

You Said: You told us that issues in relation to parking, speeding and cars without MOT and TAX in the local area is important to you.

We did: If there are any suspicious vehicles continue to report to us. In relation to parking, if a vehicle is parking over your driveway and obstructing you from accessing the highway then we can act within reason to the situation in relation to this. Regarding school parking, we have conducted some patrols during school times, but this is an action of traffic wardens and the council as we have no powers. However, when we can head down to the schools we will do as part of our preventative patrols.

Priority 2: Anti-social behaviour

You Said: You have said to us that the anti-social behaviour within your area is causing a concern. This includes acts of drug taking, excessive noise, parties and many more. We are and continue to work with our partner agencies to reduce occurrences and take action on those who are causing an issue. Many of our local shops experienced this over the school breaks with children within the shops

We did: Anti-social behaviour (ASB) takes many forms. From aggressive, noisy, or abusive behaviour to neighbourhood disturbances involving drugs or animals. We have been working in conjunction with partner agencies such as local councils, housing, and wellbeing services to tackle and prevent ASB using a problem-solving approach to achieve the best results.

We have also continued to conduct patrols and stop check any persons or vehicles involved in drugs. We encourage you to report any information related to anti-social behaviour. We have visited some shops across Wigston where the reports were heightened and provided some advice in relation to how to report anti-social behaviour.

Priority 3: Dog fouling

You Said: You told us that dog fouling is an issue within the local area.

We did: We have been in contact with the council to put some more signs up within the local area to remind those who are guilty of leaving it, to pick it up and the sanctions if they do not. Over the lighter evenings, when we conduct our park patrols, we will be keeping a cautious eye out for those who fall guilty of not cleaning up after their fluffy friend.

Beat Surgeries:

This month officers have been doing their Beat Surgeries across South Wigston. On March 6th the local officers went to Tescos Blaby Road to meet with many of you. It was great to see many of you to discuss any issues that you may have been having and be able to offer some advice. We also managed to give some ‘Message in a Bottle’s’ to those who themselves, and their family would benefit from.

SPIKING AWARENESS WEEK:

This month your local officers have been visiting pubs across the local area and provided spiking prevention equipment that members of staff being the bar can give out, so please ask in you local pubs to see if they have any of these! Amongst doing this we have spoken to members of the public and staff at the pubs about the ways in which they can prevent being spiked, as well as how to report if you suspect that somebody has been spiked. Some of this advice included:

❗Avoid leaving your drink unattended.

❗ If you think your drink may have been spiked… trust your instincts and report immediately.

❗ Do NOT accept drinks from strangers, no matter how genuine they seem.

☎️ Contact us if you suspect that someone has been spiked.

Business crime week of action:

This month we have also been attending our local shops in South Wigston as to how they can report crime to us, by giving out a Step-by-Step guide for them to follow. This pack also contains the way in which we investigate their crimes when they report to us. We hope that this will be particularly helpful, especially during the lighter evenings and school holidays coming up, we hope that with patrols in the area, it will better aid the prevention of anti-social behaviour from youths. Furthermore, we have helped with a guide of how they can report thefts to us.

Upcoming Beat surgeries:

22nd April- Blaby Road Park- 5pm-6pm

There are many more upcoming beat surgeries and events throughout South Wigston, we will be advertising these over the coming weeks on our social media.
