🌞 Haddlesey Lock – Keeping Everyone Safe

With the recent warm weather, we know how tempting it can be for young people to head out and enjoy the water at places like Haddlesey Lock and locations with open water.

We’ve recently had a number of reports about young people swimming specifically at the lock, along with some concerns around behaviour. We completely understand that everyone wants somewhere to cool off and have fun — however, this particular location can be very dangerous.

⚠️ The water may look inviting, but there are hidden risks such as  cold water shock, and unseen hazards.
🚫 Swimming here is also prohibited under Canal & River Trust bylaws.

We’re working closely with partners including the Canal & River Trust, Fire & Rescue Service, and North Yorkshire Council to help keep people safe.

💬 We kindly ask parents and carers to have a chat with young people about the risks and to encourage safer places to spend time during the warm weather.

Our aim is not to stop anyone enjoying themselves, but to make sure everyone gets home safely.
Any anti-social behaviour reported will still be dealt with appropriately.
