🚨 Community Safety Alert: Operation Dark Night 🚴♀️🚶♂️🐎 From 27th October to 9th November, North Yorkshire Police are running Operation Dark Night, a targeted initiative to improve road safety for vulnerable road users—cyclists, pedestrians, and horse riders—during the darker hours of the day. 🌙 Why Operation Dark Night? As daylight hours shrink, visibility on our roads becomes a serious concern. While North Yorkshire have a high concentration of pedal cycle use, collision rates remain low—but we want to keep it that way. Cyclists, in particular, move quickly through traffic and are harder to spot in poor lighting. Pedestrians and horse riders also face increased risks when not clearly visible. The operation aims to raise awareness and encourage safer practices for all road users. 👮 What Will Officers Be Doing? Visibility saves lives—make sure you’re seen and safe. 📍 Local Action in Filey This morning, officers in Filey were out on Muston Road conducting proactive stops as part of Operation Dark Night. Several vehicles were stopped, drivers were educated on visibility and safety, and eye tests were carried out with a 100% pass rate. A fantastic result that highlights the importance of regular vision checks and responsible driving.
