Burbage Police Weekly Update. Attempt Vehicle Theft, Rogue Traders, Speed Watch, Crime Figures And Local Events. |
||||||||
Hello Resident,
We hope you are well. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage this week.
Reported Crime and Appeals
Report from Cowper Road of suspects looking around a Ford Focus at 01:15 on the morning of the 16th. This incident appears to be linked to the recent reports on the 13th where two suspects were seen on Far Lash and Forresters Road. If you are aware of those involved, please get in touch immediately with any information you have. This could prevent a residential burglary or car theft. 25000545225
A resident has been in contact regarding a rogue trader who visited The Fairway sometime last week. It appears he was targeting elderly residents offering a boiler service then offering to service the lawn mower. When the resident declined the offers, the male was extremely rude. If you have any information such as a vehicle registration or CCTV, please get in touch. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk
As we approach the darker nights, rogue traders may use subjects such as roof repairs, boilers, trees etc. If you are not expecting anyone to visit you, please do not open doors to these people. Do not agree to work, do not hand over cash and do not go to a cash machine upon their request. If you feel threatened or intimidated by these people, call the Police immediately. If you can get a vehicle registration or any other details, this will really help us in identify those involved. Doorstep scams | Scams and fraud | Age UK
Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement
Overall crime for Burbage is 14% lower than the previous 12 months. Vehicle crime is down 32%, criminal damage is down 29%, Residential burglary is down nearly 10% and shed breaks (outdoor buildings) are down 36%. Whilst most other local areas have seen a decline in reported crime over the last 12 months, Burbage has seen one of the biggest decreases locally. The aim of our messages is to raise awareness of what crime goes on, to make appeals to identify those involved, and to help residents target harden their property so we can hopefully keep those crime figures come down.
As requested by residents, we attended the below locations as part of community speed watch.
Amber Way – Concerns of speeding and erratic driving coming from local garages. We visited the local garages and explained local concerns. All those spoken to were understanding and will ensure any issues raised are addressed. We completed speed monitoring, and no vehicles were found to be speeding whilst we were at the location. Brookside (by the outdoor Gym) - 202 vehicles monitored, 0 driving over the limit. Observations were that on street parking and speed bumps reduced vehicle speeds. I was concerned at the number of children on bicycles not wearing helmets or paying attention whilst crossing the road. We have spoken to Hastings about this, and concerns have been addressed in school. Lutterworth Road – 55 vehicles leaving and entering Burbage from the A5 monitored. 4 vehicles found to be speeding (2 x 40Mph, 1 x 39Mph and 1 x 38Mph), most of which were entering the village. We gave these vehicles plenty of opportunity to slow down before speeds were checked but unfortunately, they failed to do so. If you enter Burbage from the A5, please ensure you are travelling at the speed limits stated.
It was disappointing that at least 3 out of the 4 vehicles speeding were Burbage residents. We complete these activities in response to Burbage resident’s concerns, and to try and limit incidents of road traffic collisions that are caused by speed and dangerous driving.
