Introducing Invisible DNA Spray to Combat Vehicle Thefts

Dear Resident,

We're excited to announce the introduction of an advanced tool to address moped thefts and anti-social driving in our community.

Our Cambridge City East neighbourhood team is piloting SelectaDNA kits, a cutting-edge technology designed to identify individuals and vehicles involved in theft and anti-social driving incidents.

These kits form a crucial part of our crackdown on nuisance moped riders and other related crimes in our city. Officers will now have the capability to discreetly spray riders engaging in hazardous behaviour on pavements or suspected individuals associated with thefts, as well as their bikes or mopeds.

This invisible DNA spray, non-toxic and environmentally safe, equips our officers with valuable evidence to link individuals and vehicles to specific incidents, especially when the bike and rider cannot be stopped immediately.

In a recent successful deployment, officers responded to reports of attempted moped thefts and apprehended a 16-year-old suspect from Peterborough in Chesterton. Subsequent scanning revealed traces of the SelectaDNA spray on the suspect's clothing. He has been bailed with conditions restricting his access to Cambridge.

Sergeant Neil Campbell from the City East Neighbourhood Team emphasises, "The integration of SelectaDNA marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to curb vehicle thefts in Cambridge. These kits represent a proactive approach in convicting offenders and deterring future incidents."

Remember, if you have any relevant information report it to us by calling 101 or via the online reporting portal: https://bit.ly/3J4qHQj

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in making our community safer.

Best regards,

Jack Mitchell
