CONSTRUCTION WATCH SCOTLAND

BULLETIN 03/05/2024

As you can see, this is a slightly different format from the previous bulletins, with incidents arranged within the Police territorial division in which they occurred. It is hoped that this makes the bulletin easier to read. Should you have any comments regarding the format, please let us know.

This bulletin covers the last two weeks of incidents since 19th April 2024. Please take the appropriate measures to protect machinery, material, especially cable and fuel tanks at your construction sites, these continue to be targeted by criminals. Again we have seen a number of thefts involving cable, which is an issue across the UK.

PS-20240427-1980	AV	Theft of fuel	STONEHAVEN	Caller reports finding a vehicle has driven through locked gates and syphoned diesel from 4 10 tonne machines on site.
PS-20240429-0729	AK	Damage to plant	ABERDEEN	Damage to digger on building site following a vehicle driving erratically on site. The mirrors and windows of the digger have been smashed and broken.
Forth Valley Division (C Div)
PS-20240422-0680	CS	Theft of fuel	STIRLING	A quantity of fuel has been stolen from locus as well as gas canisters. Suspects have bent spikes on security fence and forced open the canister cage.
PS-20240501-1108	CF	Theft from site	BONESS	Caller arrived at building site to find that 3 Stihl saws have been stolen from site.
Tayside Division (D Div)
PS-20240423-0786	DC	Theft from site	DUNDEE	Theft of 45 wooden pallets from site.
PS-20240430-1310	DC	Theft from M/V	DUNDEE	Caller reporting theft of power tools which have been taken from a van while caller was working. He states they were in a rolling tool box so probably would have been seen.
PS-20240430-2345	DC	HB/Theft of copper	DUNDEE	Units at locus have been broken into and copper piping removed resulting in water damage.
Edinburgh City Division (E Div)
PS-20240419-0593	EN	Theft from site	EDINBURGH PARK, , EDINBURGH,	Caller reporting that someone has been in containers overnight - strimmers - machinery and PPE items and a trolley missing from containers caller states the containers are padlocked overnight - no sign of the padlocks[PA1] .
PS-20240420-0869	ED	House breaking to site	NEWCRAIGHALL	About 0700 hours on Friday 19 April 2024 Heras fencing had been damaged and reels, coils and wiring had been moved and stolen.

PS-20240422-0831	ED	Damage to site	EDINBURGH	Caller suspects youths have entered site and driven one of the machines into some scaffolding causing damage to the machine and scaffolding.

PS-20240429-1743	EC	Theft from site	EDINBURGH	Caller reporting a vehicle has arrived at the site, smashed the clips on heras fencing, drove onto the site and stole insulation and plaster cladding.

Greater Glasgow Division (G Div)
PS-20240420-1052	GA	Theft of cable	GLASGOW	Drum of cable has been taken from the site staff advised 2 inches in diameter 4 core 95 mil over 500 meters with drum has also been taken. Staff advised they have to use a Hiab to drop the cables off.
PS-20240421-3606	GU	Damage to plant/site	GLASGOW	Calling to advise of damage to equipment on the site. Caller advised 2 male youths approx. 14 have smashed a cabin window, two tractor windows have been smashed and four digger windows have been smashed and one dumper truck window has been smashed also.
PS-20240419-2034	GP	Theft of metal	GLASGOW	Caller reporting breaking at locus address. Noting that lead piping from inside the building has been removed - causing flooding which has caused extensive damage to building - resulting in floors coming away.
PS-20240422-3706	GK	Damage to site	GLASGOW	Group of youths entered construction site and broke windows (nfd) by throwing stones.
PS-20240423-0626	GC	Theft from site	NEWTON MEARNS, GLASGOW	Theft of large generator from site, would have required vehicle with crane.
PS-20240501-3151	GD	Theft from M/V	GLASGOW	Theft of compactor plate/vibration drill from the rear of his works vehicle.
Lothians and Scottish Borders Division (J Div)
PS-20240419-0752	JG	Theft of plant	LIVINGSTON	Theft of orange black mini digger and trailer from site.
PS-20240420-0126	JE	Damage to plant	COCKENZIE	Caller states that 2 no. 8 tonne mini excavators had their windows smashed. Excavators were inside the fenced off area on site.
PS-20240420-0953	JE	Damage to plant	TRANENT	Call from site foreman reporting damage to one of their 8 ton track machine yesterday evening with the side window being smashed.
PS-20240426-1667	JG	Theft from site	WINCHBURGH	Whacker plate stolen during the night from building site at locus.
PS-20240428-2767	JG	Attempt theft of fuel	WINCHBURGH	Caller reports seeing 4 suspects on site, wearing balaclavas and carrying jerry cans. Police attended and suspects left, leaving the jerry cans on site.
PS-20240430-0437	JB	Theft by housebreaking/Theft of fuel	LAUDER	Cabin in Yard broken into and approximately 600 litres of diesel stolen from a fuel tank within the yard.
PS-20240501-0880	JB	HB/Damage to site	COLDSTREAM	Persons u/k have accessed a building which is fenced off and undergoing a renovation. The suspects have gained access to the building by smashing a window and preceded to cause damage within.
PS-20240501-3800	JG	Damage to site	LIVINGSTON	Caller reported having seen youths starting one of the machines at a building site Police attended and area searched, no trace. The perimeter fence looked as though it had been damaged.
Argyll and West Dumbartonshire Division (L Div)
PS-20240420-0945	LB	Theft from site	ARROCHAR	Work unit entered and several tools and equipment stolen from within.
PS-20240422-1734	LA	Damage to site	ARROCHAR	Lock deliberately cut on gate at site.
Highlands and Islands Division (N Div)
PS-20240426-0533	LN	Attempt House breaking	LERWICK	Caller has gone to the site to find that someone has attempted to break into their site office by attempting to jemmy the lock on the door.
Fife Division (P Div)
PS-20240430-0615	PJ	Damage to plant	COWDENBEATH	Caller reports the windows of a digger on site having been smashed overnight.
PS-20240502-2425	PJ	Theft of cable	ROSYTH	Group of males were seen to enter yard and steal a quantity of electrical cable.
Lanarkshire Division (Q Div)
PS-20240419-1559	QE	Theft of cable	WISHAW	Suspects have gained access to the site any time between 12/04/24 and 19/04/24 and have dug up an extensive area of ground to remove wiring, thereafter striping the wiring down and stealing the copper wiring. It is unknown at this time how much wiring has been taken.
PS-20240422-0166	QG	Theft of fuel	AIRDRIE	Theft of fuel from dumper trucks at site. Unknown quantity.
PS-20240422-1037	QA	Theft from site	CAMBUSLANG	Pallet of paving has been stolen from site.
PS-20240422-0975	QE	Theft of cable	WISHAW	Trenches have been dug and copper cable has been stolen.
PS-20240424-0177	QG	Attempt theft of fuel	AIRDRIE	Two suspects seen onsite carrying jerry cans, heading towards machines.
PS-20240425-1175	QE	Theft of cable	BELLSHILL	Approx. 300 metres of heavy copper cable stolen from locus.
PS-20240425-0570	QG	Theft from M/V	COATBRIDGE	Works van broken into by u/k means, no sign of forced entry, and several power tools stolen.
PS-20240428-3126	QB	Theft of fuel	HAMILTON	Males (U/k how many) seen stealing fuel from trucks parked at locus. Left in grey BMW.
PS-20240429-1310	QG	Theft from site	CUMBERNAULD	Diesel generator stolen from site. U/K MO.
PS-20240430-0612	QG	Theft from site	KILSYTH	4 x males breaking into site and stealing powder used in rough casting. The suspects had cut padlocks on heras fencing to gain access.
PS-20240429-3400	QE	Theft of fuel	SHOTTS	2 x males on quads entered windfarm site and stole 2 jerry cans of diesel before leaving.
PS-20240501-0718	QG	Theft from M/V	AIRDRIE	Caller reports that someone has broken into his works van and stolen power tools (NFD).
