As there has been an improvement in the weather, the reports of drones being used inappropriately have increased.

If you own a drone or light model aircraft, here are a few steps for you to stay within the regulations and legislation while still enjoying your hobby.

Drone regulations in the United Kingdom ensure safe and responsible drone operation. Whether you’re a hobbyist or a commercial operator, here are the key points to keep in mind:

Age Requirement:

Drone operators must be at least 12 years old to fly independently1.

Maximum Altitude:

Drones are not permitted to fly higher than 400 feet (120 meters)1.

Line of Sight:

Operators must maintain a line of sight with their drone at all times1.

Restricted Airspace:

Permission is required before flying in restricted airspace1.

Registration:

If you’re a hobbyist flying a drone weighing over 250g, or a drone with a camera, registration is mandatory2.

Model Aircraft:

Legally, model aircraft are also considered drones. These range from small lightweight models to gas-turbine powered scaled replicas, capable of fast speeds and weighing close to 10kg3.
