Rogue Traders

Good afternoon Resident,

There has been an increase in reports of door to door rogue traders operating in the Ramsgate area in recent weeks, with sums of money being demanded for minor and/or unnecessary work to be carried out.

These “traders” often target the elderly and vulnerable, attempting to obtain excessive sums of money.

Below is some advice around the use of traders;

-    Never sign or agree to anything on the spot, no matter how urgent they make the work sound, it’s better not to use a door-to-door tradesmen and use someone you have found after research done by yourself, family or friends.
-    Check the trader’s identity. Always ask for an identity card and look up the organisation to check the salesperson’s identity is genuine and see examples of their work.
-    Always shop around for the best price or at least get a second opinion on the work being offered as it may not need doing.
-    Remember you can politely say no and close your door. If they are truly a professional, they will respect this.
-    If you have concerns don’t let them into your address.
-    Do not pay in full in advance of work being completed.
-    If you feel threatened or they become aggressive call the police.

Please look out for family members, friends and neighbours. Report any suspicious activity or concerning behaviours to police via the online reporting service at Report a crime | Kent Police

Many thanks,
