Ashton Drive | BURGLARY prevention advice

Morning all,

We have recently been made aware of an attempted burglary in the area of Ashton Drive  in Lancaster. In light of this, I would like to pass on some useful crime prevention advice.

1. To be seen or not to be seen!

Keep your property & belongings visible - This may be easier said than done but if you can reduce any hedges around your property, alongside trees, fences and walls, then this may act as a deterrence as it will be easier to spot anyone acting suspiciously. Also, don't leave any valuables where they can be easily spotted by passers-by (in windows, on car seats etc).

2. Gotcha!

CCTV - Any CCTV that you have around your property will have a big impact on the potential for burglaries. If you have CCTV, ensure that it is working properly and any footage can be accessed easily, if needed. You could also register your cameras on our NICE2SHARE system which indicates to us, quickly, where we can look for footage after an incident - I'll attach the link to register at the end.

3.  Lets shine some light on the situation!

Lighting - Having a well lit property is a deterrent for potential burglars as they inherently don't want to get spotted. Motion-sensing lighting works well with CCTV as any movement is picked up and possible ID's can be made.

Hopefully, with increased Police patrols and support from the community, we can deter the burglars and help to reduce burglaries in the Ashton Drive area. If you would like any further information on how to keep your property safe, respond to this email and I'll reply as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can go online to the attached link;
