Public Spaces Protection Order - Now in Effect

Good Afternoon,

As you may be aware that on the 1st April 2024 Medway Council implemented the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) scheme which covers the whole of Medway. This will help tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) from vehicles (cars, motorbikes, quads, etc) which are being ridden anti-socially, spectators, car meets, as well as motorists playing loud music.  A person who is found in breach of this order is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale or to a fixed penalty notice (most likely in the region of £100).  This is a Medway Council enforced initiative, but the police have been given the ability to issue fines as well on their behalf.  The PSPO is in place in all areas 24/7.  There will be a short period to advertise/educate the public on the initiative prior to issuing fines.

This is a positive step forward in tackling nuisance vehicles and with your support in reporting any problems we shall try to clamp down on any developing issues.  You can report any issues to cst@medway.gov.uk

Kind Regards

PCSO Cheryl Hendrie
